By Donny Shankle CPT

Q:  Recently, I've been experiencing an extreme case of tennis elbow in my right arm which has become nearly debilitating.  Do you have any suggestions on either preventive, corrective or supportive measures?  Further, what are your training recommendations with such an injury?

  1. Hi Donny,

First of you have my full sympathy as I know first hand about this debilitating injury.

I have had both tennis elbow and golfers elbow. The first from bad kettlebell snatch lockouts five years ago; the second from over-doing neutral grip pull-ups fours years ago. I had tried everything from massive Ibuprofen to contrast baths, heat/ice etc with only marginal results.

Since seeing a Level IV Z-Health practitioner three years ago for two sessions the problem is completely under control. Essentially before all training sessions and even on off days if there is any soreness(of course I realize there are not too many off days for you) I perform a several kinds of Z-Health elbow circles. This gets fluid into the joint, while gently increasing ROM.

A great many folks use Z-Health as their primary injury pre-hab and re-hab and a much greater number think its new-age mumbo jumbo or just plain BS. I was of the later group but in desperation scheduled the visits. Do yourself a favor, and schedule high level Z-Health practitioner in you area.

    Best of luck!
